Well it finally happened..... I now own a Wayne Gretzky rookie card.
After a lightning quick deal finilized on Twitter this past week, this Gretzky is now solidified in my card collection.
Although this card doesn't "fit" in my primary collection, you can never go wrong with a Wayne Gretzky rookie card in one's collection. Whichever area of card collecting you come from, a Gretzky rookie is near impossible to beat. I mean, sure, there are other cards a lot more rarer than this, but it's hard to beat the classics - Especially one of The Great One.
While I don't usually collect big name rookie cards, it's kind of something I have made sure to accomplish on the side, but without breaking the bank.
I usually stick with the "low valued" rookie cards in order to accomplish these collecting goals, but with vintage rookies it's near impossible to do due to the lack of card / set variety back in those days. However, in the case of the Gretzky rookie card, I am glad I was able to find a clean-faced version of the Canadian-made O-Pee-Chee card (nothing against Topps, I swear) and this one fit the bill for me.
Bursting with historical and hobby significance, not to mention the timeless 1979-80's set design, this card will be appreciated at for years to come inside my very own personal collection.
It took awhile, but I'm glad I finally added the big one.
Do you have any Gretzky rookie cards in your collection? If so, let's hear it!
