Will this year be the year of the BuyBack? Apparently so. Let's dive a little deeper into this, shall we?
After hearing the news that the Upper Deck BuyBacks boxed product will make a return to the hobby during the 2019-20 release schedule (The 1st UD Buybacks product was released during the hobby's "McDavid Era" in 2015-16), Upper Deck had another surprise waiting for collectors inside their yearly Upper Deck Series 1 staple product: More BuyBacks.
These 30th Anniversary 1/1 BuyBack cards are set to celebrate 30 years of Upper Deck Hockey. A period of time filled with ups, downs, and everything in between for the corperation who is a massive presence in this hobby of ours. So what about this Series 1 buybacks? How much of these were inserted into packs? Well, lets take a look at Upper Deck for the answer on that one [via Twitter]:
Wow. So every single base & rookie card from Upper Deck's first 15 years (1990-2004) will have a 1/1 stamped buyback card!? While that does sound exciting, that is a ton of cards for collectors to look forward to when ripping into their packs. While the player content will have some high & lows depending on who you end up pulling, I think anytime you can pull a serial numbered 1/1 is a pretty cool feeling, not to mention the nostalgia of pulling actual cards from years ago. No doubt there's going to be a ton of 1/1's to go around; about 15 years worth of cards! Awesome stuff, Upper Deck!
Editor's Note: Here is an updated link to the 19-20 UD Series 1 30th Anniversary BuyBack 1/1 checklist [Page 2, post #42-#43]: Series 1 30th Anniversary BuyBack 1/1 Checklist What about the second 15-year span after the 04-05 series? Well, while nothing has been confirmed by Upper Deck yet, my hobby hunch says we can expect that in 2019-20 UD Series 2. In fact, it's more than just a hunch at this point. While scouring SportCardForum the other night, a member posted that Upper Deck had bought an entire 2008-09 Upper Deck Series 1 set off of them the other day (thread is linked here). Given this information, I suspect UD is buying up the remaining 15-year span (2005-2019) of their own sets in order to stamp and insert more of these 1/1 30th anniversary buyback cards in time for Series 2 to complete the 30-year re-insertion of Upper Deck cards into their staple product. As a player collector, this means that you could potentially have quite a handful of new 1/1's to collect of your PC player from these buyback cards over the years. In my case, with Jhonas Enroth cards, by my count I will have 4 of these 30th Anniversary BuyBack 1/1 cards to chase once 19-20 Upper Deck Series 2 releases:
I'm hoping I can snag at least one of these. Can't wait! What do you think of these buyback cards added into Series 1? Do you love them or hate them? Will you be picking them up for your collections? Have you pulled any from your breaks? Let me know in the comment section below. Until next time, - Crease

Good stuff! I happened to pull a 92'-93' Scott Niedermayer YG (2nd year for YG's I believe) 1/1 in some loose packs. Needless to say I was pretty excited. I think it makes for a more exciting collecting experience. As for the amount... It's hard to say if it's good or bad. But, as you said, just the concept of pulling a 1/1 is a great thing. I look forward to finding more!

Thanks for your comment! That 1/1 buyback sounds like a great card. Not a bad name to pull either! It's going to be fun seeing all of these buybacks start popping up.

Hi there! I haven’t been able to find any of the 1/1 Buyback cards for my Enroth collection yet. There are 4 of them. Maybe one of these years!
