I've been having so much fun these past few days thinking about some content to publish to this new blog (if you have any ideas, questions, or topics you want me to cover, please let me know) and today I'm going to briefly talk about my first set completion... 2006-2007 Fleer Hockey Netminders.
First off, lets go into some background on how this set collection came to be.
After losing my small hockey card collection in a move when I was a kid, I finally picked up the hobby (for reals) back in 2005-2006. Now, I may be a little younger than the average age of most of the passionate hobbyists out there right now, so forgive me if a set from 2006-07 brings back some nostalgia for me, but it does. I was just starting my first in-depth look into this great hobby, and I was all over it.
I remember going into little convenient stores in town looking for a pack or two of Fleer Hockey because it was one of the newest products they had. I even went as far as ordering a box of it way back in the day. I believe it was my first ever full box break. I remember being so nervous opening the packs I could barely breath. Now, this wasn't like opening 05-06 The Cup, but it felt like it for me.
In my binders and traders boxes, I still have a ton of Fleer base cards and inserts kicking around from back in those days and it really makes me smile. Some of the inserts from that product were gorgeous and I just can't seem to get rid of them. Hitting the Marty Brodeur Base and Hockey Headliners insert in the same pack blew my mind, and still are some of the coolest looking cards in my Brodeur PC. So, so nice. I've inserted a picture below of those two cards, just to get an idea of how nice this product was.
