What a time to be a hockey card collector right now. In case you missed it, I showcased the 2015-16 The Cup Connor McDavid RPA Jersey Numbered #97/99 last week. Between this Crosby Cup RPA and the McDavid Jersey numbered Cup Rookie Patch Auto /99 currently up for auction on Leland's, we're seeing some of the two most popular modern day hockey cards ever, both up for auction. At the same time. Crazy, right!? So, what do you think this 2005-06 Crosby Cup RPA goes for? This card is already 35 bids in will a current highest bid at a whopping $51,600 USD with 9 days left in the auction. That's a lot of coin. While this Crosby only features a 1-colour patch (black) in the Penguins' unique glacier twill pattern, I think that can be framed as an added bonus to the cards appeal or legitamacy, seeing as how a fake patch could be a concern on any big auction, especially one that will draw as many eyes as this auction will. So having just a 'plain' black patch swatch will add to the authenticity of this card, seeing as how nobody would fake a 1-colour. This card has also been documented as being an authentic game-used patch, so if you have anywhere near the money to bid on this card, you'll be able to bid with confidence. I know hockey cards sell for pennies comparies to those baseball/Basketball cards of similar status, but it's so fun seeing massive hockey cards up for sale during this time. These high profile auctions could bring some much-needed exposure to our litte corner of hockey within the card collecting world. My theory is we could see some high rollers jump ship and go for one or the other, further increasing eachothers prices before these auctions end, creating some legendary competition that won't be seen for a long, long time, maybe never again. This Sidney Crosby Cup RPA is currently up for sale by PWCC Auctions through eBay. There is also a PWCC Vault Marketplace video showcasing the card on video on December, 2019. You can view that video on YouTube below: Author's Note: This Sidney Crosby The Cup RPA sold on June 25th for a final bid of $125,200 USD, which equates to $170,710.20 CAD.
