Another 300 Win Club card bites the dust!
Today I acquired the Billy Smith card for my ongoing set collection. Aside from absolutely murdering the legs/ankles/bodies of apposing players with his stick and being the first NHL goalie ever credited with a goal, Billy "The Bat" Smith managed to rack up an impressive 305 wins in his career, making this a very fitting game-used stick card added to my set today. I just can't help but wonder who was on the other end of that stick that is represented on this card? Who knows, but it makes for one great storytelling piece. After some Quarantine thinking, I decided it was time to pursue the new SP Game-Used 40 Wins Club cards as a part of my ongoing A Piece of History: Wins Club memorabilia card collection.
The Brodeur was the first addition to my "new" set collection venture and you can't ask for a much better start to this project. These cards are actually serial numbered #/99 which makes it a tougher card to find compared to some of the other cards in this set over the years, not to mention the waves of set collectors that are also chasing these cards. Luckily, I have another card for this Win Club subset incoming, so I'm hoping it arrives somewhat quickly with everything going on. If you happen to come across anymore of these Win Club cards (300 Win or 40 Win memorabilia cards), please let me know. Thanks! - Aaron / creasecollector Big News: After some thought, I've decided to extend my set collection by adding these 40 Win Club cards into my ongoing 300 Win Club set.
Shockingly uneventful, I know. :) These 40 Win Club cards were the latest edition to the A Piece of History memorabilia card set as far as the goaltenders go. They debut in 2018-19 SP Game Used, and the ongoing set has seen a few more additions as of this year's recent 2019-20 SP Game Used product release. These cards follow the same design are the other APOH sets, while now being green and serial numbered #/99 for some added rarity. Already I've seen some steep competition for these memorabilia cards, especially for the Gold variations serial numbered #/15 (which, for the sake of my wallet, I will not be chasing). These reoccurring A Piece of History sets have had a massive following for almost two decades and it still continues today. While the goalies in these sets are fairly new, it's still cool to see a single set have that much demand in the hobby, even after that much time has passed. I really like everything about this set, so while I had some time today looking at my 300 Win Club cards, I decided to try for these cards as well. If I'm being honest, this whole quarantine thing is probably making me do this! Haha, oh well, these will make for some awesome adds to my set. Here's a list of the 7 cards I need in this small 40 Win Club set, which will no doubt see some more additions in the coming year(s): 40-CH Connor Hellebuyck /99 40-PR Patrick Roy /99 40-RL Roberto Luongo /99 40-AV Andrei Vasilevskiy /99 40-CP Carey Price /99 40-MB Martin Brodeur /99 (Incoming) 40-PR Pekka Rinne /99 If you have any of these cards for my set, please let me know. Thanks! - Crease Two bubble mailers were sitting in the mailbox today, and that can only be a sign of good things. Let's unpack what was in my mailbox today:
The first card was another Team Sweden card for my Enroth PC. It is from the 2018-19 BY Cards 2019 IIHF World Championships set, which actually pictures Enroth from 2018 at the Olympic Games funny enough. Photo mishaps aside, these cards from BY Cards (which originate in Russia) are always quality cards that I really do enjoy adding to my collection. The next card that was waiting for me today was the 18-19 Upper Deck Series 2 300 Win Club Jersey card (white coloured swatch) of Cam Ward, which fills a much-needed hole in this ongoing set collection. I meant to pickup this card once it was released, but the prices were waaaaaaaay too high. I know there are a ton of set collectors going after the 300 Win Club set, but I wasn't going to pay the $100-$150+ price tag that some of these cards were selling for (crazy, right?). I was patient with this one and found one on sale. Thank you, COMC! Card prices aside, adding the Cam Ward card to my collection today was very cool. I've always liked watching him play in the league and he always seemed like a pretty down to earth kind of dude, plus his masks were always top notch. Fun fact about 'Wardo' and I is that we both share the same goalie mask painter - Steve Nash from EyeCandyAir! Steve once told me that Ward was always thinking about new ideas for his masks, even while out on the road, which even included using a napkin to draw out an idea he had for some mask art on one of his Hurricanes' masks. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me. Not a bad way to start 2020 with not one, but TWO new additions for my Upper Deck 300 Win Club set.
A received both of these in a deal from a member on Hobby Insider and the timing couldn't have been better. My goal for the new year was to reach 20 cards for my Win Club set and these two additions put me at lucky number 18 right now. I'm hoping I can knock off the Cam Ward sometime soon, as that is currently the most recent card to join the ongoing set, but I haven't been able to snag one... yet. I've seen a few Esposito's floating around, but the Osgood is the one I was really after since that doesn't pop up too often. Either way, I'm just happy to add these two to the collection. They have found a good home here. Until next time, - Crease It's been a little while since I added to my Upper Deck 300 Win Club set. After missing a couple of key auctions on a few cards which bummed me out, luck finally was on my side as I was able to snag the Barrasso stick card recently.
This Tom Barrasso card was a big piece for the set, as he has a ton of collectors out there which makes this card tricky to grab for the right price. Barrasso notched 369 wins in his impressive NHL career and was awarded a card in this set back in 2015-16 Upper Deckl Series 1. This card features a nice cut of wood from one of his old Heaton (I presume) goalie sticks. Another sweet add to my set! This is my 16th card from the 300th Win Club set to date and I'm always looking to add more from my want list! Happy collecting, everyone! Late this afternoon I was excited to see another yellow bubble mailer sitting in the mailbox today, as I knew exactly what was inside before I even opened it. Don't you love mail days like those?
These cards might not look like much, but it completes my 2018-19 Upper Deck Synergy Last Line Of Defence green parallel insert set, limited to 199 copies. I'm not primarily a set collector, so making the decision to chase a particular set of cards is a rare thing for me. While I've completed some low-end goalie sets in the past, this is the first paralleled set of goalie cards I've completed so far, which is a new collecting 'milestone' for me. Though this isn't a complete master set for this subset (there are also Midnight Parallels #/25), I am still stoked to put this set to bed. I received these two cards from a fellow Hobby Insider forum member, as he broke very large amounts of 18-19 Synergy and gifted these to me free of charge in order for me two finally finish this green parallel set. Love that! Until next time, - Crease Added the Frederik Andersen to my Last Line Of Defence Green Parallel set tonight. Can't wait to add the final 2 (Jones & Rinne) to complete this small 15-card parallel set!
I received this in a trade with a fellow SportsCardForum member, Paul. Great guy and a very easy member to deal with. I was able to help with out with his & his daughter's collection with some sweet Price & Fleury cards. I'm glad they liked them! Collectors helping other collectors - That's what it's all about at the end of the day. Happy Collecting! -Crease So this week I added the Carey Price and Marc-Andre Fleury to my ongoing 2018-19 Upper Deck Syngery Last Line Of Defence Green Parallel #/199 set. 2 steps closer! Can't wait to finally finish this set off. The Price & Fleury were going to be the toughest to add from this set, so I'm glad to have finally knocked them off the wantlist.
I currently need the following 3 cards to complete this small 15-card set parallel'd set: #LD-4 Frederik Andersen /199 #LD-6 Martin Jones /199 #LD-7 Pekka Rinne /199 Today I added this 2015-16 Upper Deck 300 Win Club Henrik "The King" Lundqvist to the collection today. This brings me up to 15 cards in the 300 Win Club Jersey/Relic set so far in the (current) 24-card 300 Win Club set I am chasing. Felt great to finally add the Lundqvist! I missed out on a few Cam Ward's not too long ago, so here's hoping I can snag a copy of that one sooner rather than later.
