My Upper Deck Win Club set just got a nice boost today with the addition of the 2001-02 Upper Deck Challenge For The Cup A Piece Of History: 500 Win Club card of Patrick Roy
These Roy Win Club cards were the first cards in the A Piece of History set to feature a goalie and it was released in the Challenge For The Cup product. At the time, Upper Deck decided to add a goalie into the mix with Roy's historic 500th career win milestone that was broken at the time. UD didn't start adding more goalies into this A Piece Of History set until 2012-13 with the 300 Win Club set that we're familiar with today. While this card was a one-and-done occurrence, this card has aged very well and still continues to be very desirable with collectors even with the "high" print run #/300. While I didn't originally plan on adding this card to my collection, I recently decided to go after the entire set of Win Club cards, so I'm glad I finally pulled the trigger on one of these beauties.
I kind of wish UD would update this subset and throw Brodeur into the 500 Win Club set, or at least create a Brodeur "600 Win Club" card on his own like they did with Roy's 500 win accomplishment at the time. I'm not sure if it's worth the cost for one single card, but it would be an awesome chase card if they ever decide to do it.
.....The hunt continues.....
