Big news for Swedish hockey fans earlier today as Jhonas Enroth signed a 3-year contract with Orebro HK in the SHL.
This signing had been widely rumoured since Enroth left the KHL this past season and comes as no surprise to me. I've expected him to make the move to Orebro once again and I feel like it's a really great move for him.
Enroth is no stranger to Orebro, as he played 12 games for them at the tail end of the 2018-19 season in a big push to help them make the playoffs that year before re-signing with Dinamo Minsk. It will be great to see what Enroth can do with this team during the 2020-21 season and beyond!
But what does this signing mean for my card collection?
As for newly produced cards, it looks like the collection will hit a bit of a rut, as the SHL (Or Swedish Hockey in general) hasn't had a licensed card manufacturer producing cards across the entire league for a good number or years now. So it appears the yearly run of regular season Enroth cards will come to an end for the foreseeable future, it seems.
While it'll be disappointing to not chase the regular season cards of the SHL, I do expect Enroth to get some new cards somewhere down the line since the KHL has created some sets in the past which included KHL veterans from the past, so here's hoping. I've also seen some Orebro Team Issued cards kicking around, so that could be another potential card opportunity, too. We ain't done yet, folks! Not to mention all of the cards that are still listed on my wantlist.
As always, happy collecting!
