Jersey Numbered Cards: Love at first... Stamp?

2018-19 SeReal KHL 11th Season Premium Bronze Foil # 1/10 - Enroth's Jersey Number
I've never been a fan of the inflated prices or "eBay 1 of 1" stance that many sellers take when it comes to a players' jersey numbered card, but when the price is right and you're on the lookout for another cool addition to the PC - you pull the trigger.

The card you see above is currently incoming... because I just purchased it minutes ago. (This card was received and added to the collection on August 27th, 2019).

Why purchase a card I already own? More on that below.

I have never gone out of my way to purchase a jersey numbered card for my Enroth collection, especially if I already have a copy of the card already (two, in this case), so this was a little bit out of left field for me. I have acquired all of my jersey numbered cards by coincidence and not through card hunting. Also, since Enroth has worn #1 throughout the majority of his professional career, technically every stamped 1/1 card I own of Enroth is a "jersey numbered" card, but I won't be counting those when looking at my jersey numbered card count, which currently stands at 8 cards - including the card featured for this blog post. I will be updating this blog post when I receive this card (This card was received and added to the collection on 08/27/19).

However, after recently completing a count of my total Jhonas Enroth card collection (which does include duplicates), I realized I am reaching closer & closer to card number 500 (my current count is 453 cards as of this blog post), which is quite insane if you think about it. So maybe this purchase was a bit of an impulse buy for a few reasons. :)

I also was recently daydreaming into the future to see where this collection will eventually end up for me after Enroth hangs up the pads in a few years time. While no doubt I will be still chasing those cards left of my Want List, and there might be the occasional KHL card or two since SeReal likes to use former players when/where they can, or maybe a card from Leaf Trading Cards (As I know they have at least 1 of his Game-Used jersey's), where will the collection branch out from there? I'd love for this collection to continue to evolve where and whenever possible so I can continue to have fun with it long after Enroth's player days are over.

I already have a few areas I've branched out to so the collection can keep on growing. The main one being Autographed base & insert cards. I have always liked collecting those when I can, and my current total stands at 9 cards. Those have been very enjoyable to add to the collection these past few years, and I hope to add more soon. The other avenue I've recently branched off into for the Enroth PC has been graded cards. While a new venture for this player collection, I have surprisingly enjoyed adding new graded cards to the collection.

While I've thought about the idea of swatch upgrades or colour chasing, which I've seen many player collectors do, I'm holding off on that for now as I feel that would be a rabbit hole I'd rather not go down yet due to the number of memorabilia sets in my collection. I'd like to save that money to buy cards I actually really need for my collection instead of buying duplicates. But it's definitely a road I might travel down in the future to breath more life into this collection if/when it ever gets to that point. But for now, I'm all set.

So will jersey numbered cards be my next avenue of pickups for this collection? Who knows. While I do enjoy picking up a jersey numbered card, I guess like all cards, it will depend on the price and general availability. I would never pay a premium price just because something has a specific serial number, especially if the card in question is one that I already have a copy of, but like any area of my collection, it would be fun to knockoff jersey numbered parallels when I get the rare chance to do it.

In addition to keeping things fresh, it will also increase the total number of Enroth cards in my collection, which is always a good thing in my book!

Do you chase after any jersey numbered cards for your collection? Or are you a "one and done" type of collector? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

As always, happy collecting!
