Today I'm going to feature Ryan's collection of one of the All-Time greatest goaltenders in NHL history: Patrick Roy. His Roy collection features over 2,000 cards of one of the best goalies to ever play the game. I hope you enjoy this recent edition of Collectors Corner! IntroductionMy earliest memory of collecting is ripping packs of 1991 Topps Baseball with my older brother. I was 5 or 6 and loved the feeling of pulling cards from a pack (and the stick of gum). I didn't get into hockey collecting until about 1993, and only casually. It wasn't until summer 1997, when I started playing hockey, that I got into collecting almost exclusively hockey cards. At that time, it was Pinnacle and Score that the pro shop at the rink sold and trying to find Epix inserts (a side collection I have going). I stopped collecting around 2004 when I went to college, and started back up about 3 years later. I haven't really looked back since. What/Who Do you Collect?Aside from a few side projects, the main focus of my hockey card collection is Patrick Roy. Why Did You Start Collecting Patrick Roy? I've been fascinated with Roy since I was about 12, I was immediately drawn to the Avalanche uniforms when they entered the league and always loved his helmet designs. His tenacity certainly helped, and playing in the same era as guys like Brodeur and Hasek made it so much fun to watch. What is Your Favourite Card or Item(s)?My favorite cards are the 1997 Donruss Preferred Precious Metals Platinum, 1997 Pinnacle Certified Mirror Platinum and the 1999 SPX Spectrum 1/1. What's On Your Current Patrick Roy Wantlist? Are There Any 'White Whales' That You'd Like To Add One Day?I recently purchased a large collection that knocked several want list items off the list, but there are always more. I am always on the lookout for the 2002 Stadium Club St. Patrick Relics cards, I need all the /25, /10 and /5 cards. Those have been near impossible to find for me. I'm always on the lookout for the 1998 Black Diamond Winning Formula Platinum, as well the super rare 1997 Donruss Elite Prime Numbers die-cut /9. Really, anything I don't have would make the want list. Hi John! That card is probably short-printed that year. I know a few in the Parkhurst autographed sets were. Wouldn’t surprise me if Roy was short printed as opposed to other autos in the set.
